Product Overview

Brand PARKER
Model:  51 "Aerometric"
Type:

Fountain pen, NAVY GRAY body with 1/10, 12K Gold filled cap. Made in U.S.A. - The Nib is 14K, and the size: MEDIUM, smooth writing.

Length:  13.60 cms = 5.35 inches (approx.)
Filling: Aerometric: This system was widely used by Parker in the postwar era until cartridges ate everything. Many converters work on the same principle.

The aerometric system is basically an eyedropper bulb attached to the insides of the pen. Unscrewing the barrel reveals an ink sac encased in a metal frame with an exposed pressure bar. Press the pressure bar a few times to fill the ink sac.

The Parker-built aero fillers are extremely durable (they used nylon or some plastic instead of rubber for the sac) and are more often than not in perfectly good condition even after 50 years of use.
Parker "51"
Hystory:

The Parker 51 is a fountain pen first introduced in 1941. Parker marketed it as “The World’s Most Wanted Pen”, a slogan alluding to restrictions on production of consumer goods for civilian markets in the United States during World War II. Parker's continual advertising during the war created demand that took several years to fulfil after the end of the conflict.

The pen and the ink were both named 51 to mark 1939, the company's 51st anniversary, during which development for the pen was completed (U.S. design patent No. 116,097, U.S. Patent 2,223,541 filed). By giving the pen a number instead of a name, Parker avoided the problem of translating a name into other languages.

Made in: U.S.A.
